Cupping and Moxibustion Cupping and Moxibustion

cuppingCupping Therapy has been widely used around the world, with records showing its use in China 3,000 years ago and in Egypt 1,550 BC. It is also known as 'Horn' or 'Bamboo' Therapy due to cow horns or bamboo being used.

Cupping uses glass cups of different sizes into which a vacuum is created by placing a lighted taper. This is then quickly removed and the cup is swiftly placed on the area of the skin at the appropriate point. Placed on different areas of the body, cupping can clear joint pains or backache.

It is suitable for all ages including the elderly and the young. The treatment may leave a slight reddening of the skin especially if there is congestion in the area being treated.

Moxibustion

moxibustionIs the application of heat, through the burning of herbs such as mugwort contained in a Moxa Stick. The Moxa Stick is held over the area and a gentle warmth is felt. It helps to ease pain and discomfort and is an ideal treatment for period pains.

After any Holistic Treatment a Healing Crisis may occur - to limit the effects of this always drink plenty of water and rest if necessary.
